Administrator Account

In order to install PABXSoft the account must be an Administrator. It does not need to remain so after the installation (see below). Please note that in Windows 7/Server 2008 etc there are now Administrator USER accounts that differ from true Administrator accounts and that have lesser access rights. Please consult your IT personnel.

We also recommend on Windows 7, Server 2008 and all Windows operating systems that will follow, that you turn UAC off. This is because in these operating systems there are two tokens, or levels of security, that apply with UAC on. With UAC on, you may not have Full Administrator rights and may not be able to run the Call Collector service.

You can not install PABXSoft under one account and then run it under a different account. This is because we continuosly reference the Hkey_Current_User folder in the registry.

PABXSoft uses a Windows SERVICE to run the Call Collector (data collection from the telephone system).

Windows does not allow a regular USER (e.g. not an Administrator) to be able to Start and Stop Services.

However, we have included a facility in PABXSoft Version 8 (available from 4th April 2011) to overcome this.

To allow a USER account the facility to Start and Stop the Call Collector Service, log out of their account and log in under an Administrator account. (Do not simply switch log ins, they need to be fully logged out). Go to the PABXSoft installation folder (e.g. C:\Program Files\PABXSoft) and then the Call Collector Service folder. Run the file ManageService.exe.

Add the User name and click Apply.

Now the User can start and stop the Call Collector Service as if they were an Administrator.
