Virtual Folders

Virtual Folders in Windows Vista, Server 2003, Server 2008, Windows 7, Server 2011 etc were, we believe, an idea by Windows to help people restore accidently deleted folders and files. However, it has caused considerable consternation to our tech support team and customers alike, because the Virtual Folders, even though the software is intentionally deleted, are automatically created by Windows.

A typical scenario is this.

PABXSoft is installed to C:\Program Files(x86) directory under a User Account. For whatever reason, perhaps a corrupted database, the software is uninstalled. It appears to have gone, but Windows has saved a copy of all files and folders in the Virtual Directory. PABXSoft is then re-installed. Windows assumes that as the new installation has the same name as the old, that it should simply refer to the Virtual Folder instead. So, the result is, despite deletion, you are still pointing to the old files and folders !!!

Solution.

You need to start from scratch first by un-installing PABXsoft and deleting the PABXSoft folder in the Program Files directory (e.g. Program Files or Program Files(x86).

Go to Start > Search and search for any reference to PABXSoft. This should now show you everything saved in Virtual Folders. Right click them and delete.

Once everything is gone, you should now be able to re-install PABXSoft.
